Harlingen, Texas - On Friday, Christian Castro, 52, was taken into custody around 9:30 a.m. at the 3700 block of Sun Chase Drive in Harlingen by Texas Rangers, Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension investigators and U.S. Department of Homeland Security agents in Cameron County. Castro, a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (USICE) agent was criminally charged in Hennepin County in Minneapolis, Minnesota for assault (shooting a suspected Venezuelan immigrant) and then filing a false crime report against Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis, who was shot in the thigh by Castro on January 14, 2026. Castro and another USICE agent were chasing Alfredo Alejandro Aljorna into an apartment building and Castro fired at Aljorna, but instead struck Sosa-Celis in the thigh.
A $200,000 cash bail was set for Castro. Castro will now face the process of extradition to Minnesota, in order to face criminal charges.
The Hennepin County District Attorney's Office says, that Castro was charged earlier this month with four counts of second-degree assault and one count of falsely reporting a crime for an incident on Jan. 14, 2026, when he discharged his weapon through the front door of a home knowing there were people who had just run inside.
Castro and the other USICE agent lied in a crime report saying they were attacked by Sosa-Celis and Aljorna, which a security camera surveillance video from a nearby location captured the shooting contradicting Castro's claims.
The Hennepin County District Attorney's Office issued a felony warrant for the arrest of Castro.
Castro is the second USICE agent to be criminally charged in Hennepin County, Minnesota during the Operation Metro Surge immigration enforcement operations conducted by the MAGA (Make Amerikkka Great Again) USICE.
