Off-duty Racine Police Officer John Hetland Killed In Attempted Arm Robbery And Off-duty Milwaukee Police Officer Kou Her Killed In Crash By Four Time Convicted OWI Driver

Two police officers from different departments killed in non-related incidents in Wisconsin.

Racine, WI - Two police departments in Wisconsin are mourning the loss of several off-duty police officers killed nearly four hours apart. The first officer killed was reported by the Racine Police Department who confirmed that off-duty Racine Police Officer John Hetland, a 28-year police veteran with the department was fatally shot on Monday around 9:40 p.m. at the 1900 block of Lapthrop Ave. while attempting to arrest a suspected armed robber at Teezer's Tavern. The murder suspect fled the scene and $2,000 dollar reward is being offered by the Kenosha County Sheriff's Department and the Crime Stoppers of Racine County for any information leading to the arrest of the suspect, according to the Racine Police Department.
On a non-related deadly incident on Tuesday, the Milwaukee Police Department reported that off-duty Milwaukee Police Officer Kou Her, a 2-year police veteran on the department was fatally killed shortly after getting off duty arund 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday while driving home near N. 60th Street and W. Capital Ave. A suspected OWI driver apparently was speeding and ran a red light striking Her's vehicle who died from the crash injuries. The driver that struck Her was taken into custody and has four prior OWI convictions, according to the Milwaukee Police Department.
