Waukegan, Illinois - On Thursday, more than 21 police and law enforcement squads (units) responded to a 911 call that a subject with an AR (assault rifle) was at the Waukegan High School, at the 2300 block of Brookside Ave. in Waukegan around 10:12 a.m., the school was placed on lock down. Police say the call or information originated from the United Kingdom via a Google app, and the name given had no record of being a student or resident of Waukegan. The called location changed from the app to inside the school and a search was conducted.

No one was located inside the school armed with an AR, which police now say was a false call alarm similar to police "swatting" calls.

Social media posts indicated a weapon was located, but police have not confirmed, if a weapon was recovered from inside the school.

Police continue to investigate the false 911 call to determine, if a student (or individuals) at the Waukegan High School originated the false police emergency call.
