Bay View, WI - On Sunday, Daniel L. Mangert, 36, was taken into custody for an alleged felony charge for child sexual assault, which charges are still pending, according to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office. Mangert was hospitalized and booked in the Milwaukee County jail on Monday.
A Milwaukee County Sheriff's deputy responded to an incident reported around 4:00 p.m. at the Humboldt Park Pavillion where the Beer Garden is located involving a 4-year-old boy who was allegedly molested by a man inside a bathroom stall. The 4-year-old boy apparently was allowed to go the bathroom by himself while his mother was attending one of her daughters who had been injured while playing at a nearby playground.
A male witness who offered to look for the child inside the bathroom while the mother waited outside discovered that another man was inside a bathroom stall with the boy. The second man who turned out to be Mangert told the mother that he was helping her son in the stall, but the mother suspected otherwise and Mangert fled in a bicycle from the park, the Bay View Compass reported.
Another person at the park identified Mangert as the man who fled the scene to a deputy. Also, the man who found Mangert in the bathroom stall with the boy chased him in his truck, according to the Bay View Compass.
When authorities located him, Mangert attempted to avoid arrest by jumping out of a building, sustaining injuries and was hospitalized.
In 2006, Mangert was convicted for felony bail jumping and in 2005, he was convicted for felony causing mental harm to a child, according to Milwaukee County court records.
