Waukesha County Judge Jennifer R. Dorow Allowed Applauds In Court Room After Each Life Sentence Handed To Darrell E. Brooks Jr. For The Christmas Holiday Parade Carnage In 2021

Those attending including the family members of some of the Waukesha County Christmas Holiday Parade carnage victims in 2021 were allowed by Judge Dorow to applaud after each life sentence she handed down at Brooks Jr.

Waukesha, Wisconsin - On Wednesday, Darrell E. Brooks Jr., 39, stood silently during his sentencing to six consecutive life terms without the possibility of parole for the deaths of six victims he ran over without stopping during the City of Waukesha Christmas Holiday Parade in 2021. Waukesha County Circuit Court Judge Jennifer R. Dorow allowed for those attending including family members of the victims during the sentencing hearing to applaud after each consecutive life sentence given to Brooks Jr. Brooks Jr. also received more than 1,067 years of additional sentencing for 61 felony counts of 1st-degree endangering safety, which included 61 victims that suffered injuries, each count totalled 17 years and six months sentence including 12 years of confinement and 5 years of extended supervision for each count consecutive to any other sentence that was imposed by Judge Dorow. 

A total of 762 years and 6 months in prison and 305 years of extended supervision in addition to 6 life terms.

Brooks Jr. was sentenced to an additional 150 years in prison for hit-and-run related charges. Brooks Jr. was sentenced to 25 years in prison including 15 years of confinement and 10 years of extended supervision for each of the six felony counts for hit-and-run causing death and an additional 6 years in prison with 3 years confinement and 3 years supervision for bail jumping, which should be served concurrently with the homicide counts and an additional 9 months in jail for battery to be served consecutively to other counts.

The 6 deceased victims were identified as: 

• Virginia Sorenson, 79-year-old female 

• LeAnna Owen, 71-year-old female 

• Tamara Durand, 52-year-old female 

• Jane Kulich, 52-year-old female 

• Wilhelm Hospel, 81-year-old male

• Jackson Sparks, 8-year-old child

According to the criminal complaint, Brooks Jr. on November 21, 2021 drove through a parade route with his vehicle in the City of Waukesha during a Christmas Holiday Parade without stopping striking numerous parade participants and spectators including children. At least 6 victims died from injuries and 61 other victims suffered injuries during the hit-and-run incident.
