Renzo Rascon-Gamboa Charged With 1st-degree Reckless Homicide For The Fatal Shooting On August 26 That Left A 19-year-old Woman Dead And Another Injured

Rascon-Gamboa is being sought by Milwaukee police for the August 26 fatal shooting homicide of a woman and that left another woman injured.

Milwaukee, WI - Milwaukee police is currently seeking to locate Renzo Rascon-Gamboa, 21, who on August 26, 2021 around 5:33a.m. fatally shot Mercedes C. Hernandez, 19, of Neopit and injured another 19-year-old woman in a vehicle that four females and the deceased female passenger occupied.

Rascon-Gamboa was charged on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 with two felony counts for 1st-degree reckless homicide and use of dangerous weapon and 1st-degree reckless injury including use of a dangerous weapon. If convicted on all counts, Rascon-Gamboa is facing up to 60 years in prison for reckless homicide and 25 years in prison and up to $100,000 in fines for the reckless injury criminal charge.

According to the criminal complaint, the five women in a vehicle were chasing Rascon-Gamboa from S. 14 Street and W. Washington area after the women returned to the scene of a vandalized vehicle, which belonged to the suspect. Police say that Rascon-Gamboa's ex-girlfriend had confessed to  vandalizing Rascon-Gamboa's vehicle and they had left the scene earlier, but one of the females involved noticed that she dropped her wallet at the scene.

When they returned to the scene on S. 14 St. where a vehicle's rear window was damaged, they saw Rascon-Gamboa leave the scene and gave chase. Then Rascon-Gamboa managed to stop along the chase, got out of the vehicle and fired multiple shots at the vehicle full of women including his ex-girlfriend. Hernandez who was a passenger was shot and later succumbed to her injuries and a second victim was also struck in the ear and suffered a non-life-threatening injury. Rascon-Gamboa's ex-girlfriend was not injured.

The women called police and afterwards drove to the 1100 block of W. Hayes Avenue to meet with police.

The ex-girlfriend told police that the suspect had vandalized her vehicle on July 9 and in retaliation they decided to vandalized the suspect's vehicle.

Rascon-Gamboa remains on the run to avoid prosecution.
