Chicago, Illinois - Mexican nationals in the U.S. have confirmed that three major protests will take place on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in front of the Mexican Consulates in Chicago , Raleigh, North Carolina beginning at 11:00 a.m. in the morning and Detroit, Michigan at 3:00 p.m. One of the organizers in Chicago, Alfonso Seiva posted on his Facebook account that the protests is a result of the 20% increase of PEMEX gasoline prices approved by the Mexican Congress and President Enrique Peña Nieto for the New Year. If gas prices increase in the international fuel market, Mexican nationals will see an increase of gas prices as well.
Another gas increase of 8% is expected by February, which the cost will increase prices of food, public transportation, education and other basic needs as well.

Major protests have been taking place around Mexico in the last seven days, which many gas stations have gone empty due to road and highway blockades by low income citizens who say they can't afford to pay high gasoline prices.
In Chicago, Raleigh and Detroit, Gasolinazo protesters are demanding for Peña Nieto and the Secretary of Foreign Relations Luis Videgaray to resign.
So far, the PEMEX gas station operating in Houston, Texas continues to operate and has yet to be targeted or boycotted by Gasolinazo protesters in the U.S.
