Monterrey, Nuevo León, México - On Wednesday just before 9:00 a.m., Federico Fernando Guevara Elizondo, 15, a student at the Northeast American High School (Colegio) located South of Monterrey apparently took out a .22 Long Rifle Caliber handgun from his school backpack and shot three fellow students and a teacher in the classroom. The injured students were identified as Cecilia Diaz Ramos, 14, (shot in the head); Manuel Chávez, 15, (shot in the arm); Luis Fernándo Ramirez González, 14, (shot in the skull) and a teacher, Cecilia Christina Solis, 24, (shot in the skull). Elizondo also tired to shoot himself in the head, but the gun misfires and he reloads it again and then shot himself from the lower chin. The suspect drops from the gunshot wound and the rest of the students in the classroom are then able to escape while those injured students and the teacher remained in the classroom floor.
Elizondo was taken to a local hospital where he later died from the self-inflicted wound (the bullet entered his lower chin and traveled up to his head). Two of the injured students and Solis are listed in critical condition and a third student was wounded in the arm. All of those reported injured are expected to survive.
Elizondo suffered from depression and was undergoing treatment, according to Mexican authorities.
According to police sources in Monterrey, Elizondo is the son of Carlos Guevara, the head of the personal body guard security unit for Jaime Rodríguez Calderón, aka, "El Bronco" the Mayor of Monterrey. Mexican Ministry authorities have obtained a warrant and searched Elizondo's home for evidence concerning the school shooting.
According to a Facebook (FB) posting that surfaced from Elizondo dated the night before the shooting in a closed group called "Legion Holk," he warned certain friends from school not to show up on Wednesday because he was going to engage in a school massacre. At least 80 FB users knew about the intended shooting by Elizondo on Tuesday night and 37 comments were posted on Elizondo's FB account under the name "Fede Guevara." None of the FB users contacted authorities or school officials to prevent the shooting.
In a WhatsApp message on Tuesday afternoon around 5:07 p.m., Elizondo messaged Alex Villarreal not to show up for classes on Wednesday as well. Several other friends responded as well to the massage.
Apparently, Mexican authorities are investigating whether some of his immediate friends were implicated or conspired with Elizondo to commit the shooting at the school.
In another FB posting, Juan Pablo posted on the Legion Holk that he and others helped plan the school shooting and donations collected between them were made to buy the weapon for Elizondo as a group. Pablo says, that Elizondo was picked by the group for the intended crime.
