Balli had been wanted in connection with the July 16, 2019 homicide of a 44-year-old man in the Southside of Milwaukee.

Milwaukee, Wisconsin - On Friday, Mario Angelo Balli, 48, was booked in the Milwaukee County jail for the July 16, 2019 homicide of Rolando Barrera, 44, near the 3300 block of W. Mitchell Street. Balli allegedly shot Barrera while he was driving and then the victim crashed into a fence.
Balli was charged on December 30, 2022 with 2 felony counts, one count of 1st-degree reckless homicide with use of a dangerous weapon during the commission of a felony, and the second count for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
If convicted, Balli is facing up to 60 years in prison for 1st-degree reckless homicide and an additional 5 years in prison for use of a dangerous weapon, and is facing up to 3 years in prison for possession of a weapon by a felon.
The criminal complaint says, that an informant told police that Balli had admitted to him that he shot Barrera because he believed that Barrera stole $100,000 in cash meant for a drug deal.
The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office found several plastic bags of cocaine in Barrera's pockets during an autopsy, according to police.
Police also found Balli's fingerprints in Barrera's vehicle, the criminal complaint says.
