34-year-old Jonathan Castanon-Varela Charged With Attempted 1st-Degree Intentional Homicide In Connection With The January 10 Stabbing Of His Estranged Wife

Castanon-Varela stabbed his estranged wife multiple times after a home invasion violating a temporary restraining order.

West Allis, Wisconsin - On Tuesday, Jonathan Castanon-Varela, 34, was charged with several felony counts for attempted 1st-degree intentional homicide including several modifiers for use of a dangerous weapon and domestic abuse assessment, and a felony count for stalking resulting in bodily harm including a modifier for domestic abuse assessment in connection with the January 10, 2023 stabbing incident at S. 73 Street and W. Beloit Road in West Allis.

If convicted, Castanon-Varela is facing up to 60 years in prison and up to $25,000 in fines and an additional 5 years in prison for use of a dangerous weapon, and is also facing up to 12 years and 6 months in prison for stalking resulting in bodily harm.

According to the criminal complaint, Castanon-Varela went to his estranged wife's residence on January 10, entered her home and stabbed her multiple times. Castanon-Varela was wanted at the time of the stabbing for violating a temporary restraining order.

Castanon-Varela was later arrested after getting in touch with his estranged wife while police were monitoring her calls. He was located and taken into custody.

He had previously threatened his estranged wife by telling her if she wouldn't be with him, she wouldn't be with anyone else and that he loved her, according to the criminal complaint.

Castanon-Varela's estranged wife filed for a temporary restraining order in December 2022.
