Members of the Puerto Rican population in the U.S. and allies have launched a national boycott against sponsors who opt out of the NYC Puerto Rican Parade in protest of Oscar López Rivera being invited to participate as an honored guest in the annual event.

New York City, New York - Puerto Ricans against U.S. oppression and colonialism of their island launch boycott against sponsors who opt out from the NYC Puerto Rican (PR) Parade. Former NYC PR Parade sponsors being boycott by Puerto Ricans and allies are Goya, Coca Cola, AT&T, Jet Blue, McDonald's, Corona, Yankees, Univisión, NC and Telemundo.
Oscar López Rivera, convicted Independista against U.S. colonialism of Puerto Rico now freed, decides not to participate as an honoree in the NYC Puerto Rican Parade. Rivera doesn't want those who don't know the history of PR's oppression by the U.S. to defined the event. Numerous parade sponsors and participants decided to boycott the event after Rivera was invited to participate as an honor guest. He spent more than 30 years in prison, but his sentence was commuted by Obama.
