Middletown, Wisconsin - On Saturday, democratic delegates elected Martha Laning as Democrat Party of Wisconsin State Chair on a vote of 722 for another term including David Bowen as Vice-Chair. Other party members running for State Chair were Brian Kennedy who received 569 votes, Eric Finch 50 votes and Joe Donovan with 48 votes.
Also, Patricia Ruiz-Cantu was elected as the Wisconsin Democratic Latino Caucus Chair and Sylvia Ortiz Velez was elected as Vice-Chair. Velez founded the Latino Caucus in 2006. At least 2,200 Democratic delegates attended the convention.
The State Democratic Party has a history of not empowering and funding the Latino Caucus adequately in prior years and have taken the Hispanic vote for granted. Time will tell, if the State Democrats and Laning actually allow the Latino Caucus to strive this time around, if not, Democrats will not succeed in winning the governorship and replace Republican Governor Scott Walker without the Latino vote.
The State Democratic Party also created a Progressive Caucus.
