SB 78 Bill Allowing To Appoint DACA Recipients As Law Enforcement Officers Referred To Wisconsin Senate Organization Committee

State Assembly Bill 51 (SB 78) passed the State Assembly and was awaiting State Senate hearing for approval, but on a vote of 22-10, the bill was referred to the Senate Organization Committee, which it remains today.

Madison, Wisconsin - On Tuesday, the Wisconsin State Senate on a vote of 22-10 referred SB 78 (AB 51) to the Senate Organization Committee and has until mid March to approve it, but meanwhile it remains in Committee. The SB 78, if passed would allow the appointment of certain lawfully present aliens as law enforcement officers. https://docs.legis.wisconsin.gov/2023/proposals/sb78

Also, AB 822 (SB 826) relating to allow DACA recipients of referred action under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program to become eligible to receive occupational licenses in Wisconsin failed to be approved in the State Assembly on Thursday, which the bill is now dead for the State Assembly session that ended on February 22, 2024. https://docs.legis.wisconsin.gov/2023/proposals/ab822
