Eric Hovde, Candidate For U.S. Senate And David D. King, Candidate For Milwaukee Mayor, Both Republicans Held A Roundtable Discussion At Lareños Restaurant In The Southside Of Milwaukee

Hovde and King met with several Republican Latinos including community activists associated with El Conquistador Newspaper and Huyke, its publisher at Lareños, a Puerto Rican food restaurant.

February 22, 2024

Milwaukee, Wisconsin - On Wednesday, Eric Hovde (R), a candidate for the U.S. Senate and David D. King, also a known Republican and a candidate for Mayor in Milwaukee held a roundtable discussion at Lareños Restaurant in the Southside of Milwaukee. Those in attendance were Geary Morales, Veronica Díaz, Walter Garron, Leo Molina, Victor Huyke, the Publisher of El Conquistador, Hilario DeLeon, the Chair of the Milwaukee County Republican Party and others.

During the roundtable discussion, Hovde said that he was in the Southside of Milwaukee to learn about the concerns that people had, he discussed federal immigration issues and about how some people wanted to defund the police, but came short to recognize that his own political party in the U.S. Senate recently failed to pass a border security bill that would have helped secure the border. Hovde didn't discuss the root issue why Milwaukee activists wanted to defund the police, which seemed that he didn't agree to defund the police.

Also King confirmed to those attending the roundtable discussion that during a previous interview, that he would "not allow Milwaukee to become a sanctuary city because it would destroy Milwaukee,  if it becomes a sanctuary city...we got to make sure there are none in Wisconsin that's because the robbery and crime starts to go up," referring to a high immigrant crime wave. In other words, King failed to recognize that Milwaukee doesn't have to be a sanctuary city to have high crime, since Milwaukee already has a high Black crime rate.

Both Hovde and King didn't offer any concrete solutions nor did they focus on their own campaign platforms that would attract the Latino vote for the Republicans. The majority of the Latino votes in the Southside for decades have been for Democrats. Milwaukee County and the City of Milwaukee have a history of voting for Democrats.

The City of Milwaukee Mayor's race is nonpartisan.

It seems that Hovde hasn't committed to supporting a comprehensive immigration reform bill with a path to U.S. citizenship for more than 11M undocumented immigrants that crossed the border without seeking asylum and his campaign website hasn't been updated yet to reflect that his own Republican Party U.S. Senators refused to recently pass (blocked) a bipartisan border security bill because Trump told them not too. It won't be until 2025, when the U.S. Congress can address the border security issue. In other words, the Republican Party doesn't want border security and want the border to remain open for countless of asylum seekers to be processed and become a burden to taxpayers, so they can use it as a political campaign issue.

King confirming that he doesn't want for Milwaukee to become a sanctuary city because it brings a high immigrant crime rate, can be perceived as being an anti-immigrant candidate for mayor, it doesn't look like many Latinos in the Southside of Milwaukee would vote for neither of them.

Attempts by Hispanic News Network U.S.A.  (HNNUSA) to contact Huyke for comment were unsuccessful.

Live video of the Hovde and King roundtable discussion courtesy of Leo Molina at following link: http://tinyurl.com/4bhr6tkr

Undocumented immigrants in Wisconsin contribute more than $94M in combined taxes per year.

Editor's note: When Sanctuary City is mentioned, it refers to cities in the U.S. that welcome undocumented immigrants who have crossed the U.S. border illegally, but don't seek asylum. Asylum seekers are usually legally processed by U.S. Immigration and Customs and are awaiting final determination whether to remain in the U.S..

RIP Anastacio "Tacho" G. Villegas

By H. Nelson Goodson
Hispanic News Network U.S.A.

February 21, 2024

Milwaukee, Wisconsin- On Tuesday, February 20, 2024, Anastacio "Tacho" G. Villegas, 74, originally from Crystal City, Texas passed away in Milwaukee, according to family members. Tacho was well known in the Milwaukee Latino community for his participation in the late 1960's to mid 1970's Mexican-American Civil Rights movement in Milwaukee. Tacho as a proud member of the Brown Berets in the 1970's under the leadership of Juan Alvarez, the Commander of the Brown Berets in Milwaukee, he was among 500 educational activists on August 27, 1970 who fought against blatant discrimination practices at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee that kept Hispanics from enrolling at the university.

Tacho also participated as a Latino community resident and member of the Brown Berets to help change discriminatory practices against migrant workers in the State of Wisconsin and participated in local protests and actions to help Latinos to apply for jobs at City, County and State government levels that were not accessible to Hispanics, the protests were led by Salvador Sánchez, Dante Navarro, Lalo Valdez, Roberto Hernández, Jesús Salas from Obreros Unidos and Ernesto Chacon from the Latin American Union for Civil Rights (LAUCR) in the 1970's in Milwaukee.

Tacho along with those community leaders and activists previously mentioned were finally recognized and honored for their contributions to make Milwaukee and the State of Wisconsin a better place to live for Hispanics after 31 years of their success to bring down the barriers of discrimination that existed in the late 1960's to mid 1970's, when the first article about the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) Takeover of Chapman Hall was published in El Conquistador Newspaper edition dated July 13-19, 2001, Vol. 4, Issue 29, titled "Venceremos, The 1970 Struggle For Education" written by H. Nelson Goodson, which later led to other publications by other authors writing about the history of Latinos that helped shaped Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin.

WI State Assembly Representative Sylvia Ortiz-Velez (D-Milw) And State Senator Robert W. Wirch (D-Somers) Voted In Favor Of Governor Tony Evers Fair Maps, A Majority Of Democrats In Both Chambers Voted No

Wisconsin Governor Evers (D) makes history by signing GOP legislative maps approved by the governor ending the Gerrymandering practice in the State, only one Democrat in the State Assembly, Rep. Ortiz-Velez and Wirch, a Democrat in the State Senate voted to approve the fair legislative maps, according to the vote count in the State Assembly and State Senate.

February 20, 2024

Madison, Wisconsin - On Monday, Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers (D) signed into law the fair legislative maps by the State Republican controlled legislature ending the Gerrymandering practice in the State. The unfair Gerrymandering maps were first approved in 2011 giving State Republicans control of the State legislature for more than a decade.

Only one Democrat, State Representative Sylvia Ortiz-Velez from Milwaukee voted in favor of the fair maps, three State Assembly Representatives, Marisabel Cabrera (D-9), Gae Leila Magnafici (R-28) and Jon Plumer (R-42) were recorded absent from the most important vote in State history regarding fair legislative maps. The rest of the Democrats in the State Assembly voted "No", while the majority of Republicans voted "Yes" to approve the fair maps.

State Assembly Representative Cabrera (D-9) from the predominately Hispanic District in the Southside of Milwaukee failed to appear for the fair legislative maps vote. It's a shame that she missed that historic vote and failed to represent her Assembly District 9. Cabrera is a candidate for Milwaukee County Circuit Judge for Branch 43.

Only one Democrat in the State Senate, Sen. Robert W. Wirch (D-22) voted in favor of the GOP fair legislative maps, while the majority of State Democrat Senators voted "No", the majority of Republicans in the State Senate voted "Yes".

History will show, that the majority of Democrats in both the State Assembly and State Senate failed to support Governor Evers fair legislative maps, in this case, the majority of Republicans in both chambers approved the fair maps ending the Gerrymandering practice in the State including one Latina Democrat in the State Assembly and one Democrat in the State Senate.

The majority of Democrats who voted against Governor Evers' fair legislative maps in both chambers failed their own constituency to be fairly represented in the State legislature.

Laredo, Texas - On Friday, Priscilla Villarreal Treviño, 39, aka, La Gordiloca announced in her Facebook Lagordiloca News LaredoTx page that she is a candidate for the City Council District 4, which the incumbent Council member Albert Torres Jr.'s term ends on November 2024 and will be an open seat.

First day to file to be placed on the ballot for the Laredo City Council is July 1, 2024 and candidates have until July 28, 2024 deadline to file in order to be place on the ballot.

Treviño is best known in Laredo for exposing City corrupt officials and law enforcement officers including members of the Webb County District Attorney's Office who decided to file criminal charges against her for publishing information about a suicide provided by a Laredo female police officer who was later terminated for giving unauthorized information about the suicide to Treviño. Treviño was taken into custody and criminally charged for publishing the information, but charges were later dropped. She then filed a federal lawsuit against the City of Laredo, the Laredo Police Department and the Webb County District Attorney's Office.

In January 2024, the majority of judges (9-7) in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth District ruled to throwout a federal lawsuit filed by Priscilla Villarreal Treviño v. City of Laredo (case No. 20-40359) because law enforcement has the justification to arrest online news bloggers that publish leaked information through government and law enforcement backchannels (back door), when the government and a law enforcement agency didn't authorized information for news reporting from a pending and ongoing investigation to be made public. (80 page ruling: https://www.ca5.uscourts.gov/opinions/pub/20/20-40359-CV3.pdf)

Currently, Treviño is considering filing an appeal of her case to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Pass Comprehensive Immigration Reform With A Path To Citizenship For The More Than 13M Undocumented Who Crossed The Border And Have Not Become Dependent On Government Welfare Like Asylum Seekers Today

Has anyone noticed?

Most of the 13M undocumented who crossed the U.S. border without seeking asylum have been self sustaining, work and pay local, state and federal taxes. The more than 9M undocumented asylum seekers under the Biden administration and current Republican/MAGA controlled U.S. Congress have become dependent on local, state and federal welfare, without requiring that they pay it back.

We now need comprehensive immigration reform with a path to U.S. citizenship more than ever for the 13M undocumented who crossed the border without seeking asylum and who have not become dependent on local, state and federal government welfare.

Final Pre-trial Set For Kimberlee Coronado Who Was Criminally Charged For Allegedly Aiding Child From Abusive Father, Ricardo Valadez In Walworth County

Coronado's final pre-trial is set for March in Walworth County, will the child involved be a witness for the defense or prosecution?

Elkhorn, Wisconsin - Kimberlee Coronado, 47, is set for a final pre-trial on March 20th, and jury trial on April 1st in the Walworth County criminal case, which multiple alleged illegal acts were committed by the Walworth County District Attorney's Office and investigating Delevan Police Department officers including detectives, especially with the aid of the Waukesha Police Department detectives, according to an updated federal Civil Rights lawsuit 23CV00211 JAO WRP claiming $88,000,000 in liability filed by Kathryn "Jack" Xian (pronouns: they, them), Kimberlee Coronado and Protective Makua against Delevan Police Detective Trevor G. Hinman in Walworth County and other defendants, Waukesha Police Department, Waukesha County, Walworth County, Walworth County District Attorney's Office in Wisconsin on early November 2023. (http://hispanicnewsnetwork.blogspot.com/2023/11/wisconsin-defendants-from-walworth-and.html)

The federal Civil Rights lawsuit against Detective Hinman and defendants details all the alleged illegal acts committed in a conspiracy to frivolously file criminal charges against Coronado, Xian and Julie Valadez for interfering with child custody of other parent and party to a crime, which in Wisconsin is a felony offense.

In the federal lawsuit case against Detective Hinman, the Civil Rights lawsuit claims that Hinman intentionally filed a false police report that was included in Delevan Police Department documents sent to the Canada Border Services Agency in an attempt to coerce immigration officials in Canada to hold both Xian and Valadez for at least 9 weeks in immigration detention, they were eventually released pending asylum status. The documents released to Hispanic News Network U.S.A. (HNNUSA) by Xian and Valadez who now live separately in Canada (while seeking asylum) showed that Detective Hinman had filed a police supplement report charging both Xian and Valadez with kidnap minor to sexually assault dated March 1, 2023, which also showed that they were booked. However, HNNUSA learned that both Xian and Valadez were not in Wisconsin when Julie's 15-year-old son, Ethan Valadez decided to run away in early January 2023 from his abusive father. Xian and Valadez were never charged with kidnap minor to sexually assault in Walworth County, indicating it was a fraudulent police supplement report by Hinman. (http://hispanicnewsnetwork.blogspot.com/2023/06/julie-valadez-ordered-released-from.html)

In Coronado's criminal case in Walworth case, multiple alleged illegal acts were committed as well violating her Wisconsin and U.S. Constitutional rights of due process,  according to the federal Civil Rights lawsuit filed against Hinman and Walworth County. When Coronado was taken into custody in March 2023, she was facing three felony charges, but two felony charges were eventually dropped. She was held at the Walworth County jail on a $100,000 cash bail for months, even when she wasn't a flight risk, nor a danger to the community and had no criminal history in Wisconsin. (http://hispanicnewsnetwork.blogspot.com/2023/03/46-year-old-kimberlee-coronado-facing.html)

So far, Det. Hinman remains in active duty at the Delavan Police Department, despite that he filed a false police supplement report against both Xian and Valadez, which the Walworth County District Attorney's Office has failed to criminally charge Hinman for filing a false report and the Delavan Police chief has also failed to hold Hinman accountable for his alleged criminal act.

Det. Hinman's actions was a mere attempt for him to push for the extradition of Xian and Valadez to Wisconsin without the U.S. State Department and U.S. Department of Justice involvement in the case. A City police detective does not have the federal authority to personally seek extradition of alleged wanted suspects living in another country without the U.S. government initiating an extradition request.

This whole debacle of injustice against Coronado, Xian and Valadez began when Waukesha County family court Judge Michael J. Abrahamian decided to illegally place the Valadez children with the abusive father, Ricardo Valadez, a former pastor and restricted Julie Valadez from having sole or joint custody. Julie filed an appeal in State Court and won, but Judge Aprahamian ignored the Wisconsin State Court of Appeals decision that he illegally placed the Valadez children with the abusive father. Aprahamian eventually recused himself from the Valadez divorce case and Waukesha County family court Judge Ralph M. Ramirez who was assigned the divorce case also ignored the Wisconsin State Court of Appeals decision as well and kept the Valadez children with the abusive father.

Julie filed a Petition For Writ Of Mandamus And Memorandum on March 23, 2023, with the Supreme Court of the State of Wisconsin. The petition writ cites multiple state and federal laws that Judge Ramirez violated during the proceedings in the Valadez divorce case including his illegal decision to give Ricardo Valadez, the known abuser full custody, who was also caught making a false statement in the course of the case and wasn't charged for lying in court, according to court transcripts in the divorce case. In June 2023, the State Supreme Court denied Julie Valadez's Writ of Mandamus. (http://hispanicnewsnetwork.blogspot.com/2023/07/corruption-and-no-accountability.html)

Currently, Valadez has filed another appeal with the Wisconsin Court of Appeals regarding her divorce case, according to State Court of Appeals records. (Appeal# 2023AP002302)
