Hispanic News Network U.S.A.

July 29, 2016

Milwaukee, WI - On Thursday, Hispanic News Network U.S.A. (HNNUSA) learned that former Esperanza Unida Executive Director Robert F. Miranda filed a civil lawsuit for slander against Felix Questell from Milwaukee claiming that Questell has been making false allegations against Miranda for over a year. According to Miranda's civil case claim, Questell in his Facebook (FB) account page posted that Miranda stole from the community and had destroyed the community, which in fact Questell has failed to provide any proof and it seems the Hispanic community is striving today and growing in population as well.
In a FB post on Thursday, Questell even posted that HNNUSA should write about "...El Gordo who Stole from the Community and destroyed it!!! That's all." Which definitely Questell meant to say Miranda, but he says, "Did I say Names??"
HNNUSA attempted to get a response from Miranda, but Miranda could not be reached for comment.
The Milwaukee County civil court case against Questell was filed on May 27, 2016 after he failed to retract his false allegations targeting Miranda. A conference hearing on the Miranda v. Questell case is set for October 13.

My father RIP worked in Nabisco for 26 years & my brother stole his checks & cashed him since they have the same name only difference is that my pops was Sr. Back then of course that was over looked. Then we moved here he started smoking crack stole from me, my mother & even my brother Francisco RIP who was a DJ! He even burned down the house in the back of my mother's house on 18th & Scott! He stole gold from my mother & myself plus other house hold items even told my mom he'll call immigration on her when she's a CITIZEN!!! According to a press release by the Milwaukee Police Department, Alert on and off-duty Milwaukee Police officers worked together and helped rescue a child with autism near Miller Park.  MPD bike officer Juan Lopez was on patrol for the July 26 baseball game when he was flagged down by a father from Glendale who said his 6-year-old son with autism was missing.  Officer Lopez and Officer Michael Maldonado began immediately searching the surrounding area.  A few minutes later, a woman yelled to officers that the child was in the Menomonee River near the pedestrian bridge.
The child was standing in the water and MPD Detective Alexander Ayala and Officer Jose Acevedo, who were off-duty and attending a tailgate, ran to the river and took the boy to safety.  The child was reunited with his parents and no medical attention was needed.
The quick response by everyone involved prevented a potentially dangerous situation and demonstrated that officers, even when off-duty, are always there to help the community, according to the MPD news release.

Milwaukee's Puerto Rican Festival Flyer Draws Criticism With Slogan "This Ain't Chicago!"

Some people in Milwaukee and Chicago are taking offense that a flyer for the 4th Annual Puerto Rican Festival includes a slogan, "This Ain't Chicago!"

By H. Nelson Goodson
Hispanic News Network U.S.A.

July 27, 2016

Milwaukee, WI - A flyer posted in Facebook and being circulated by members of the Puerto Rican Team (PRT), a for profit group in Milwaukee is generating criticism after a slogan saying, "This Ain't Chicago!" was included. Some people in Milwaukee and Chicago took offense, but most likely the PRT wants to make sure people don't confuse their smaller festival with the huge Puerto Rican Festival in Chicago, which takes place in June.
This year, a new sign was placed to identify Humboldt Park in Milwaukee where the PR festival will take place on August 14 at the Milwaukee County Park, but the name of the park was mispelled "Humbolt Park" as well. Hopefully, people won't confuse the Milwaukee PR festival with the Chicago PR festival or get lost because of the typo in the park's sign.
Chill out people, it is only a Milwaukee PR festival and PRT, stop trying to keep up with the Joneses in Chicago.
You would think that the PRT in Milwaukee would try and welcome Chicago's Puerto Rican community to Milwaukee for its event, but with a slogan "This Ain't Chicago!" is bad advertising and not good public relations or marketing strategy to generate funds, some might argue.

WikiLeaks Released DNC Email Referring To Latinos As Taco Bowls

Racist officials from the Democratic National Convention Committee referred to Hispanics as Taco Bowl Engagement.

By H. Nelson Goodson
Hispanic News Network U.S.A.

July 25, 2016

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - An e-mail leaked by WikiLeaks on Friday showed that members of the Democratic National Convention (DNC) engaged in racism via an e-mail blast and referred to Hispanics as "Taco Bowl Engagement." The e-mail by Rebecca Christopher from the DNC refers to Latinos in a video script as Taco Bowl Engagement to attack Trump.
Christopher and others in the DNC who received the e-mail blast definitely were planning to fuel more racism and hatred around the country with their negative ad campaign.
On Sunday, former DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz and U.S. Representative from Florida resigned as Chairperson days after the WikiLeaks e-mails scandal broke linking her to corruption in the DNC. Schultz joined the Clinton campaign later on Sunday after she was linked to conspiring with other DNC members to get Hillary Clinton nominated for president by unfair corrupt practices while she was the chairperson of the DNC. The DNC Committee also conspired to make false allegations for the purpose to keep Bernie Sanders from being nominated for president during the primary elections.
In another leaked email, Luis Miranda, the DNC Communications Director received an email on May 22 indicating that Hispanics are brand loyal consumers and should be marketed as corporations do, so the DNC can get them to support the Democrats in November.
Also that Hispanics and their families are "most responsive to story telling...," according to the email.
The DNC email generalized about Latinos and is deemed racist as well.
The DNC Convention starts on Monday and ends on Thursday in Philadelphia.

Puerto Rican Festival In Milwaukee Allowed To Continue At Humboldt Park

Organizers for the local 4th Annual Puerto Rican one-day festival announced that this year the event will take place once again at Humboldt Park in Milwaukee.

Hispanic News Network U.S.A.

July 20, 2016

Milwaukee, WI - Organizers for the local 4th Annual Puerto Rican one-day festival have confirmed that this year's event will be held on August 14 at Humboldt Park. In early 2016, the Milwaukee County Department of Parks had denied a permit for this year's event, but eventually decided to grant a permit after Hispanic News Network U.S.A. (HNNUSA) and the local El Conquistador Newspaper published in April that members of the Puerto Rican Festival Team (PRFT) had been denied a park permit, which generated a public outcry after an administrator from the Milwaukee County Parks cited in an e-mail that the even was overcrowded and apparently a successful event. At least 5,000 people attended the one-day PR festival in 2015, according to organizers.
Last year after the 2015 event, the PRFT met with officials with the Milwaukee County Parks administration including a representative of the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office and the meeting turned sour when the PRFT was denied a permit in September 2015 for this year's event.
In early 2016, Ryan Broderick, the Milwaukee County Parks Special Events Coordinator in an e-mail to the PRFT denied to grant another permit citing multiple issues from last year's festival. Broderick claimed that allegations of public urination were reported, there was excessive trash during and after the festival, loud music and vehicles squealing tires, overcrowding exceeding permit estimated attendance and parking complaints by neighbors around Humboldt Park. Broderick confirmed that in the September 2015 meeting between the PRFT members and park administrators, it was decided to denied the PRFT a permit to hold this year's PR festival at Humboldt Park.
The organizers for the 4th Annual Puerto Rican Festival have not released any information concerning any conditions that were agreed upon to hold the event once again at Humboldt Park, but Victor Huyke, the Publisher for El Conquistador, which sponsors the festival confirmed in his Facebook account that the PR festival will be held on Sunday, August 14 at Humboldt Park from 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. This year's PR festival starts an hour early and ends an hour early than last year.
Huyke is a former President of the Puerto Rican Cultural Committee and has been instrumental in supporting and continuing the local PR festival.

Milwaukee, WI - On Tuesday, the Milwaukee Police Department confirmed that Potawatomi Hotel & Casino has added several Milwaukee police officers to patrol the inside of the Casino. Sergeant Timothy Gauerke from the Milwaukee Police Chief's Office stated, "The Potawatomi Hotel and Casino has a contract with MPD to have MPD Officers patrol their casino.  This is similar to what the Brewers and Bradley Center have set up with MPD.  The casino pays for the officers to be present.  The presence is during times and days that are requested by the casino."
The Milwaukee police officers at the Casino have limited arrest authority and do avoid contact with Potawatomi Casino customers and members unless it becomes a policing issue.
In April 2016, a 38-year-old man was arrested after discharging a handgun multiple times inside the Casino. The gun was recovered and no injuries were reported.
In June 2013, a 27-year-old man got into an altercation inside the Casino and he discharged a weapon several times. A woman was reported injured.
In July 2011, an armed suspect grabbed a money bag from a cashier at the Casino and fled outside. A unarmed Casino guard confronted the suspect and the robber managed to fire several shots at the guard. The suspect dropped the money bag and fled empty handed. No one was reported injured.

21 St. Paul Police Officers Injured And 102 Protesters Arrested Over The Weekend

St. Paul police arrested 102 protesters on Saturday and Sunday and 21 police officers were reported injured.

St. Paul, Minnesota - At least 102 protesters were taken into custody on Saturday and Sunday. 21 police officers were reported injured by fireworks and bottles, including one officer who had a concrete block thrown at his head from a bypass resulting with a broken vertebrae, according to St. Paul Police Department.
Police reported that 50 people were arrested at I-94 on Saturday night and charged for 3rd degree riot and 52 people were arrested on Sunday around 4:00 a.m. near the intersection at Dale and Grand, they were charge for public nuisance and unlawful assembly.
Unicorn Riot members of a local independent media outlet reported that police targeted them with tear gas, concussion smoke grenades and shined flashlights at cameras to blind any coverge of police attacking protesters who then began to thow bottles at police.
Protesters chanted "F_ck the Police, Fu_k the Police" during Saturday's Interstate I-94 highway traffic flow blockage on both directions.
The St. Paul protest was one of the numerous protests around the nation against racist police officers who have murdered Afro-Americans recently in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where two Whites cops murder Alton Sterling, 37, and St. Paul, Minnesota where a St. Anthony Police officer fatally shot Philando Castile, 32.
Protests by Black Lives Matter are expected to continue around the nation to bring about justice for the murdered Afro-American victims involving racist police officers, according to protesters from Black Lives Matter.
A national social media discussion about racial tensions in the U.S. has prompted for other countries to warn their nationals traveling to the U.S. about the unstable situation between the Afro-American population, which has been victimized by racist cops in law enforcement who have escaped prosecution for killing Blacks.
A hash tag #PolicePurge in social media has drawn major concern by U.S. law enforcement because it encourages for people to target police and commit murder. A photo of a terrorist cutting the throat of a police officer in uniform has been going viral and promoting #PolicePurge, which has been condemned by many users of social media.

Greenfield Park Geese Rounded Up For Defecating And Killed For Meat By Milwaukee County Department of Parks

County taxpayers began to notice the disappearance of hundreds of geese and ducks from the Greenfield Park in late June, but discovered that the Milwaukee County Department of Parks actually rounded up the geese and then were slaughtered for meat to be donated to area food pantries.

Hispanic News Network U.S.A.

July 10, 2016

Greenfield, WI - In late June, Milwaukee County taxpayers in Greenfield began to notice the sudden disappearance of hundreds of geese and ducks from the Greenfield Park, which is managed by the Milwaukee County Department of Parks. The taxpayers began to discuss the issue in social media (Wisconsin Wildlife Photographers) and were determined to get answers.
Chelsea Shapiro in her Facebook (FB) account says that her husband received a response about the geese killings from the Milwaukee County Department of Parks and posted the response on FB. Shapiro was also interviewed by Fox 6 Now several days ago concerning the geese killings in Greenfield Park.
Jon Canavan from the Milwaukee County Department of Parks, Recreation and Culture responded by confirming that the geese were rounded up and killed for meat to donate to area food pantries. The geese and ducks were apparently rounded up while many were moltering (shedding their feathers) and couldn't fly or escape, while protecting their hatchlings.
The geese were killed for simply defecating in the park land, which is not considered fertilizing the grounds, harassing people during nesting, a large geese population nuisance and health risks, according to Canavan. Many area residents used to go to the park in a daily basis with their kids to check out the geese and other birds, but since the killings they have ceased to use the park, according to some people in social media (Facebook).
The round up and killing of geese and other species of birds campaign by the Milwaukee County Department of Parks has expanded to other parks as well without providing any formal notice to Milwaukee County taxpayers using the parks.
The Greenfield Park operates a golf course and waterpark.
The Milwaukee County Department of Parks has released no information about how the roundup of geese occurred and time, why did they eradicated all of the geese population including the baby geese as well, where were the geese taken for processing and how were they actually killed? And lastly, who actually benefits from the geese eradication in large numbers and the cost?
Why wasn't other alternatives or options considered to relocate the geese and their baby geese?

Oaxaca, México - On Sunday, municipal Oaxaca government officials during a press conference announced that they will act and use deadly force as well against any deadly aggression by Federal Police, if they engage and fire upon CNTE's unarmed striking teachers. So far more than 12 unarmed striking teachers have been killed by Federal Police and hundreds have been injured.
More than 6,000 Federal Police personnel have been deployed to Chiapas and Oaxaca under orders by Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto (EPN) to use deadly force to quash the movement of the CNTE striking teachers that has paralyzed most of the nation's economy structure, which has caused an increase of cost for gasoline and basic utilities such as electricity and natural gas as well.
Teachers from CNTE protested on Monday in front of Mexico's Stock Exchange and demanded for EPN to stay the Educational Reform Act and to begin a dialogue with CNTE. EPN has said, the repeal of Mexico's Educational Reform Act (MERA)will not be discussed in negotiations with CNTE, but teachers will continue their national strike against MERA's national implementation.

Denver, Colorado - On Friday, a Native American woman was taken into custody by a police supervisors, cited and later released for refusing to put out a burning sage at a Trump protest rally in Denver. The arrest of the woman burning sage was video recorded and Denver police is now facing national criticism for violating the woman's indigenous right to practice her native religion in public.
According to Red Power Media, Denver police arrested Josie Valadez Fraire, 22, who has a court date for August 1. She plans to challenge the charges against her for burning sage and violating her Constitutional rights.
Fraire is Xicana and is a member/activist of MEChA (Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan), a national Chicano student rights organization, according to Red Power Media.
Denver police have not released a statement about her arrest and could very well be facing a lawsuit as well. In Colorado, it is legal to smoke marijuana, but not to burn sage in public, especially at a Trump protest.
The Trump protest took place outside the Colorado's Convention Center at the 3-day Western Conservative Summit where Trump attended.
Some Trump supporters and protesters had a vocal including a push and shoving clash during the rally, but no injuries were reported.

Neighborhood Residents Participate In Games With Milwaukee County Sheriff Deputies At Sherman Park

Milwaukee County Sheriff deputies and neighborhood residents participate in games at Sherman Park showing good policing tactics with residents.

July 1, 2016

Milwaukee, WI - On Friday, Milwaukee County Sheriff deputies joined community neighborhood residents at Sherman Park, but the confrontation was unusual, both deputies and residents participated in soccer and other games while at the park. The deputies are actually practicing good policing and gaining the trust of residents and community stakeholders.
More good policing tactics are needed between Milwaukee police including deputies with the community it serves to protect. It seems, the unusual approach by deputies is working and could be successful in neutralizing tensions in the Sherman Park neighborhood.
Several days ago dozens of teens engage in a melee at Sherman Park that made national news when they confronted police in riot gear. Windows were broken in a BP gas station, a Milwaukee County Transit bus and a police vehicle. No one was arrested, but on Thursday, a White Milwaukee cop pulled a 12-year-old boy from his bicycle and arrested him for yelling profanity as he left the park. The boy was taken into custody.

Milwaukee White Police Officer Arrests Teen For Profanity At Sherman Park

One arrest reported at Sherman Park, a day after dozens of teens began a melee after they were forced to vacate the park.

July 1, 2016

Milwaukee, WI - On Thursday, a Milwaukee White police officer managed to pull a 12-year-old boy from his bike after he yelled profanity at police. The teen was taken into custody, according to adult witnesses at the park.
A group of activists, residents and members of the Black Panthers were at the Sherman Park playground monitoring the deployment of dozens of Milwaukee police officers and Milwaukee County Sheriff deputies, according to David Muhammad, a community activists. The adults monitoring police managed to get all of the teens out of the park by 9:00 p.m. The adults are expected to be back at the park by 6:00 p.m. on Friday as well.
Zeynab Ali in her Facebook account posted, "I'm very proud of our youth today for standing up for their rights. The community came together tonight at Sherman Park to spread peace. Then, the police showed up preying on our children and eventually arrested one of them for no reason at all. But in the end we were still united. I realized today that we have more youth leaders in Milwaukee, they just never thought they had it in them. Join us again tomorrow at 6 PM at Sherman Park!"
Earl Ingram Jr., another community activist posted on Facebook, "Kudos to those of you who showed up last night at Sherman Park to help curve the violence. Around 60 adult concerned citizens came out in response to what occurred the night before. There were minimal problems, thanks to all of you. Trump talks about taking back America, last night started the process of taking back our community.
"People from all walks of life showed up to direct and guide about 150 young people. We made a pledge to come back and make a difference in their lives. That's what's needed in our community, we have enough talk we need more ACTION!!! We need more people willing to show up when called on, those yesterday stayed the course.
Last night over 150 officers were at Sherman Park, surly it was over kill. I don't support anyone in wrong doing, when our young people are wrong they must be told they are wrong. Wednesday night those who created the trouble were wrong. Last night there was tension between law enforcement and citizenry. At times it resembled the demilitarized zone, that must change.
"It was a good beginning, if only a beginning. It's going to take the community to turn it around, that includes YOU..."
During the last week, police have been going to the park and forcing groups of teens including park users to leave the park before the park is actually closed. Some of the teens have been standing for their right to peacefully gather at the park, since their parents are taxpayers and the park is open for public use.
On Wednesday, dozens of teens confronted police twice after 8:00 p.m. and rocks including bricks were thrown at some police officers. Windows at a nearby BP gas station were smashed by rocks including windows from a Milwaukee County Transit bus and a police vehicle. No arrests were made on Wednesday night, according to police.
The alleged teens involved in the melee on Wednesday are Afro-Americans and the deployed police officers and deputies are mostly White, which doesn't help to ease the tension between them.
Afro-Americans teens are usually taken into custody more often than White teens and are most likely to be incarcerated more often.
Some residents in area on their Facebook accounts are indicating since the lead pipe lateral scandal in Milwaukee has been exposed, that some teens could be suffering from neurological dificiencies due to the freshwater toxic lead pipe laterals found in the thousands of homes throughout the district. Studies have indicated that exposure to lead in the drinking water could be linked to high murder and crimes by at least 25% compared to areas where no lead pipe laterals exists.
Many residents in the Northside and Southside want the City of Milwaukee and Mayor Tom Barret to remove all the toxic lead pipe laterals from homes as soon as possible.
Once lead gets inside the body it will not diminish, which lead is extremely toxic and affects the liver, kidneys, reproductive system and nervous system. Lead's most dangerous impact is on the brain and can cause serious development problems. It's been linked to everything from violent crime to low IQ.
